There are two good ways to take out 42.
10 — D16 = 42
6 — D18 = 42
You may have noticed that 2 — D20 didn’t make the cut here. If you take a look at the picture I’ll explain why. Notice that the 6 segment and the 10 segment are right next to each other. This is the first situation where the aim circle concept comes into play! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, please go read the introduction, then revisit this out. In this situation it is best to center your aim circle on the middle of the wire that divides the two segments. It doesn’t really matter which one you hit, you’re still going to end up on a double.
Now look at the 2 segment, what are the neighboring numbers? Will you end up on a double if you miss the 2 segment? By shooting at the 6/10 wire you give yourself the best odds of getting to a double. That’s how you use the layout of the dartboard to your advantage!
Advanced players: Aim slightly below the wire, you want to end up with 32 more often than 36 in this situation.
